Approach
The stone walls were sound; it was the timber floors and roof that had decayed. We therefore defined the work as placing a new shell inside the old one.

The existing stone walls were sound; it was the timber floors and roof that had decayed. We therefore defined the intervention as placing a new shell inside the old one.
Everything added — the steel frame, the timber floor, the glazing — stands clear of the stone wall, leaving a legible gap. Old and new sit side by side rather than merging.
The void left by the collapsed roof became a small courtyard at the heart of the building. Daylight now enters from there.
